MD4020 - This marine damage tolerant life preserver from Mustang Survival can take a direct hit from a fire arm or fragment and still inflate. The unique damage tolerant design makes this PFD well suited for use in high risk tactical situations. The 65 lb buoyancy provides extra flotation to compensate for the personal equipment and arms carried on missions. The MD4020 Marine Damage Tolerant Life Preserver (DTLP) is designed for tactical boarding parties, and uses Auto Hydrostatic inflator technology HIT™. In the event of accidental immersion, the damage tolerant life preserver automatically inflates and self-rights an unconscious user. For missions that require manually activated inflation, the optional MA7219 conversion cap can reconfigure the PFD from automatic to manually activated inflation.

An optional Kevlar® based ballistic pouch MA4050 is available for purchase. These pouches cover the CO² cylinders and prevent them from becoming a projectile hazard in the event they are penetrated by small arms fire or fragmentation. Testing has shown that if unprotected, the cylinder separates from its inflator when struck and is extremely hazardous to the wearer. The MA4050 Ballistic Protective Pouch is protected by Pacific Safety Product's Canadian Patent No. 2,348,139 and US Patent pending.

The MD4020 PFD comes with a harness and can be integrated with most ballistic vests and provides extra flotation to compensate for the personal equipment and arms carried on missions. No inflator maintenance is required for five years, unless the DTLP is inflated.

Life Preserver Inflatable Cells and Restraint Layer

Each damage tolerant life preserver (DTLP) contains two inflatable cells. The cells are made from polyurethane coated nylon fabric. MD4020 is inflated using co² to inflate either cell. If one cell is compromised prior to inflation, the functional redundant cell can be inflated maintaining full flotation performance.

The MD4020 uses a Hammar hydrostatic inflator that activates automatically upon entry into the water yet remains impervious to high humidity, heavy rain or waves. The MD4020 may be actuated manually by pulling on the beaded handle for either chamber. Inflating either one or both chambers provide full function of the device for operational use. Both chambers have oral inflation backup and pressure relief valves to prevent over inflation. The MD4020 comes equipped with a dump valve that allows emergency deflation and improved mobility if needed. When inflated, the cell forms a yoke around the back of the user's neck, extending into two lobes down the users chest. The inflatable cells are contained within a protective restraint, and can be easily replaced or repaired.

The protective outer container is constructed of a durable black 420 Denier rip-stop nylon. The container incorporates Mustang Survival's patented SecureZip™ closure system (UP Patent 6,832,415). The zippered enclosure can be opened via the break away point at the back of the collar.

The MD4020 DTLP comes fully assembled to a full body lightweight harness. As an alternative the MD4020 Damage Tolerant Life Preserver can be configured to integrate with PALS webbing systems on the users MOLLE vest. In the standard configuration the DTLP is secured to its harness at 6 points, four front and two back. The full body lightweight harness is secured using three buckles, chest and thigh, and has eight adjustment points that provide a universal fit. The MD4020 can be worn using either the full body lightweight harness, or using only the upper body harness by detaching the removable thigh harness from each side. The MD4020 is designed to integrate with any tactical equipment system. An optional Multi-Fit accessory package is available that allows integration with a law enforcement duty belt or PALS webbing system on the users MOLLE vest.

The MD4020 damage tolerant life preserver (DTLP) comes standard with a SOLAS signal whistle, sea light, buddy line, lifting strap, and SOLAS grade retro reflective tape.
